Hello all. On Riding Day 19 we made our way back on track and biked to Namur. We left the house in the country around 8:30, after having the yummy breakfast that was set out for us. The biking was rather uneventful we simply just kept pedaling and making our way to Namur. The riding for the first large chunk was just nice easy riding, some long hill climbs, but then they were followed with longer downhills, which is always a nice way to do it. There were some nice views along the ride as well from atop the hills (hard to capture them fully though with a camera).
We made great time to Ciney, where we decided to stop for lunch. There appeared to be a big festival that they were setting up for in the main square, and throughout the whole lunch they were doing sound checks so that was fun (many, many minutes of loud noises, feedbacks, and other painful noises). Turns out they were having a big event to celebrate the beginning of the UEFA Euro Championships... I suppose we are just chasing UEFA events without realizing it. After lunch we continued to make our way to Namur, where the riding got a bit more interesting. The roads we were following quickly turned from asphalt to gravel to large rocks to mud and big rocks. In other words our poor little hybrid touring bikes loaded with 40 pounds of gear were having to do some real mountain biking. This riding was a lot of fun, but it was very hard and slow going.
Eventually we made it through all this technical biking and made it back onto asphalt roads. After about 10 miles of biking on the road we made it into Namur. Once in Namur we made our way to the train station, bought some tickets and boarded a train for Brussles with out bikes. We thought that the Belgian trains would have a special place for bikes, but not being able to find one we just quickly hoped on board and stood in the entry way of the train. This must be common because no one seemed to care, including the ticket person. So far in regards trains the Swiss had the best system for taking a bike on the train with you.
After making it to Brussels, we got to our apartment just southwest of the city center. For dinner we went to a pub nearby and had some good food and some good beer. It is nice to be in a place that can actually make good beer again.
Well I think that is all I have for now. Tomorrow is a rest day, not that we have been biking much since the last one. Also my Dad is meeting us in Brussels tomorrow, which is going to be fun. Hopefully tomorrows post will be a bit more exciting. So I say best wishes and until next time.
